Transportation Track Record and Goals

One of the many assigned tasks as former chief of staff was to pursue policy priorities. I helped coordinate meetings between the City of Nampa, the Nampa Highway District, and Speaker Moyle (and other legislative leaders) to help secure support for the Strategic Initiatives Grant to provide increased transportation funding for local units of government. I drafted memos and testified on its behalf. Nampa and Nampa Highway District were eventually able to secure $10M in funds for transportation improvements that’s being put to work today without otherwise requiring this additional amount in property taxes. I’ve also worked with our federal delegation to secure support for competitive grant applications.

Governor Little, Speaker Moyle, the respective chairs for the transportation committees, and the legislature deserve credit for these efforts. Our Nampa transportation team worked amazingly with Nampa Highway District Director/Engineer Nick Lehman, in tandem, to advocate for funds to better serve our citizens.

As mayor, I will bring needed intergovernmental and legislative experience to further advance safety, mobility, and congestion reduction on our streets. I also want to revisit traffic impact standards and annexation patterns around county enclaves that lack continuous curb-gutter-sidewalk. I also want to revisit the traffic-calming criteria for neighborhood streets prone to dangerous speeds. Your safety matters!

There’s more work to be done, and you can count on me to roll up my sleeves and get to work, because I’ve done it before, have built the needed relationships, understand the statutory framework, will focus on turning citizen priorities into reality, and can hit the ground running. Let’s get to work on moving safely through the city. I will work tirelessly to mitigate congestion and improve safety.

I want Nampa to be a city where our families can walk, bike, run, and drive — safely. I want Nampa to be accessible for all ages and mobility challenges, a Nampa that works for everyone.
